125th Street Business Improvement District
The HARLEM TO ME IS project was launched by the 125th Street BID and sponsored by the Columbia University Data Science Institute during Harlem Holiday Lights 2019.
Harlem has always had a special meaning to those who live, work, visit, and invest in the tight-knit community. As Harlem continues to evolve, the deep feelings and attractiveness to the neighborhood never waivers. The HARLEM TO ME IS project is designed to allow you to express your inner love for Harlem.
Saxophonist Coleman Hawkins, one of the first and most prominent jazz saxophonist's of his time, produced WHAT HARLEM IS TO ME. Nicknamed "Hawk" and sometimes "Bean", Hawkins was an American jazz tenor saxophonist...one of the first prominent jazz musicians on his instrument. While he is strongly associated with swing music and the big band era, he had a role in the development of bebop in the 1940s. This holiday season, the 125th Street BID once again offers those who live, work, visit and invest in Harlem an opportunity to express what Harlem means to you. Submit your Harlem To Me Is video to the BID and you may find yourself as part of the 2020 Harlem Holiday Lights social media campaign. Check back here in the coming weeks for details.
