125th Street Business Improvement District
Once again, the 125th Street Business Improvement District and its partners, Manhattan Community Boards 9 and 10 welcome everyone to virtually join us as we kick off the holiday season in Harlem with the lighting of 125th Street.
The famed 125th Street, in the historical community of Harlem, NY, is especially well illuminated during the festive holiday season. More than 10,000 LED lights on 32 streamers are draped across nine blocks from Broadway to Fifth Avenue to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year. Harlem's 125th Street will once again be transformed into the Street of Lights during the week before Thanksgiving. This year the lights will be brighter than ever as shop owners and community residents BRING CHEERS.
On November 16th, as soon as it becomes dark (approximately 4:30/5:00pm), the BID contractor will begin to turn on the lights. Details on start location and direction they will travel will be available after November 1st.
This year, we are inviting STORE OWNERS that are located from Broadway to Fifth Avenue on 125th Street to decorate their businesses and turn their lights on at the same time that we turn on the street decorations. Participating businesses storefronts will be captured in a video that will be used to promote the holidays in Harlem.
A video will be made capturing the street coming alive with decorative lights hanging across 125th Street and the beautiful decorations in the windows of store owners coupled with interviews from the street will help us BRING CHEERS for the holidays.
The video will be embedded in this page and available for viewing until January 8, 2020. Businesses that are interested in their storefronts being in the video and/or doing an interview should submit their info no later than November 9. (See link below to submit).
As the sun sets on the living environment of 125th Street, our lighting contractors will move across 125th Street to turn on the decorative streamers one by one by. Antonia Badon and Peggy Dodson will capture this magical moment through a virtual live stream.
